Society’s messages run deep into our subconscious. “You're too old to change careers,” “Are you having your mid-life crisis,” or “It’s selfish to start over.” These beliefs masquerade as reality, but are truly only thoughts embedded by societal constructs. Identifying them as simple thoughts, starts to weaken their grip on your ability to make progressive changes to your life.
Much of society’s control operates internally in your mind, through fear of judgment or acceptance. When you recognize that this disapproval is temporary and often meaningless, you can begin to reclaim the power to live by your own standards.
It took for the passing of my father and then my mother a few years later, to realise many of these things and I know that for many people, it is the death of someone close to you, that can bring these existential thoughts.
